Antonio López de Santa Anna
The era of Westward expansion brought many great things as well as changes. One thing that Antonio López de Santa Anna brought to the Westward expansion of America was two states Texas and Arizona. Antonio had a positive impact on the expansion by expanding America’s borders.
Antonio López de Santa Anna was born on February 2, 1794 in Veracruz, Mexico. He died on June 20, 1876 in Mexico City, Mexico. Antonio was elected as the president of mexico in 1833. In 1836 he led a Mexican army to Texas, after a short victory Sam Houston quickly annihilated his troops. This gave the Mexicans “independence” from Texas, giving it to the United States. For a short while he was held in jail in Washington, he talked with president Jackson and he got let out to go back to Mexico in February of 1837. In 1839 after being faced with a liberal revolt the Mexican president Bustamante had named Antonio as the interim president. In April of 1854, he signed the Gadsden Treaty, selling Arizona to the United States for $10 million.” This quote shows that if he were not to sign the Arizona Treaty our country would be much smaller. If he had not went to America to fight Sam Houston we would not have Texas. Also if he were not put into the place of being the interim President we would not be as big or strong of a country. Thanks to this we have a larger border than we already had with the Louisiana
