Atticus a well known lawyer in the little town of Maycomb in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. He comes up against a tough, rock solid case including an African American man and a young woman who grew up in poverty. Atticus has trust in the power in using the three models of rhetoric. Ethos,Pathos and Logos to prove to the jury that his client is innocent and can walk out of court that day a free man. (Lee).
This past week has been rough for the Robinson family. After a racist jury choose to make an innocent man guilty things went from bad to worse. Atticus Finch was chosen to defend Tom Robinson. This particular case was against Mayella Ewell, a white woman. As a black man Tom was already at a disadvantage.

In the prejudiced town of Maycomb, the court ruling would inevitably rule in favor of Mayella, but he accepted the case nevertheless.
Atticus Finch is a lawyer defending Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping Mayella Ewell, a nineteen year old girl. Atticus Finch is a very tolerant and responsible man who treats everyone with respect. Atticus shows that he is tolerant many times. He is tolerant when everyone says cruel things to him about defending Tom instead of exchanging words, Atticus walks away. If he was intolerant he would have picked a fight when Bob Ewell spit in his face and told him some hurtful things, instead Atticus got in his car and drove away.
Our whole lives growing up we are told to follow the “Golden Rule”. This rule is defined as to treat someone the way you want to be treated. Jem, the son of lawyer Atticus, is the embodiment of bravery in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The book focuses on the Finch family through the eyes of Scout finch while her father, Atticus, unsuccessfully tries to prove the innocence of a black man accused of rape. Although Atticus is determined to beat the case and tries his best, Tom Robinson is eventually convicted of the crimes of rape although he did not commit the violent sexual crimes. The book also focuses on the children's obsession with the mysterious Boo Radley, who eventually saves Scout’s brother Jem from being killed. Jem spends most of the novel with a naive but brave and valiant approach to the world.
Despite racial inequalities in the South, Atticus sticks to his own morals and agrees to be the defending lawyer for Tom Robinson, a black man being accused of raping a white woman. Although Atticus’ defense in court was thorough and clearly proved Tom’s innocence, the jury was prejudiced towards black folks and convicted Tom as guilty. Nonetheless, Atticus is still a hero despite losing the case. He has the courage to stand up for what he believes in, fights with reason rather than guns, and has utmost determination, making him a hero despite being just an average human being. Ultimately, his thoughts and actions set the stage for major changes in the meaning of equality throughout Maycomb County, changing lives of numerous people.
Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird is about a man named Atticus and his two kids Jem and Scout. Atticus was appointed to defend an African American, named Tom Robinson. Tom was accused by Bob Ewell for raping and beating his daughter, Mayellea Ewell. During the trial scene, everyone in that courtroom finds outs the truth that Tom is innocent against the accusations from Bob. The truth is that Mayella kissed Tom and Bob saw what she did.
When put on trial for his alleged crime he claims he would help Mayella Ewell, the supposed victim, because he “felt sorry for her” (Lee, 264). All he wanted to do was help but this wound up being his fatal flaw. Scout Finch, the narrator, refers to her father’s, Atticus Finch and Tom’s lawyer, attempt to win the impossible trial like “watching Atticus walk into the street, raise a rifle to his shoulder and pull the trigger, but . . . knowing that the gun was empty” (Lee, 282).
During the 1930s the south was still raging with racism, and the thought of a black man raping a white woman lead to no further investigation whether it was true or false, he was simply sentenced to death. Atticus Finch, Toms adept lawyer, believed Soulfly in equality and justice for all and was more than happy to defend Tom Robinson with all his heart no matter his race. The Finch family felt very different than the majority of people in Maycomb Alabama. When Tom Robinson has accused the entirety of the town flocked to the courthouse to view the trial. Some with hopes for justice and liberty but most unapologetically hoping for an unfair sentence.
