It is weird and surprising that there is no talk or conversation about the movement of labor workers and Cesar Chavez as having a religious basis. Leon argues that La Causa was a quasi-religious movement based on Cesar Chavez’s leadership, which was modeled after Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. I mean I never heard of Cesar Chavez basing his movement and his leadership actions on religion. There was always a known separation of church and state. Church matters are never to blend with religious matters because chaos will ensue over which religion is better than the other. So, to know that Cesar Chavez’s religious beliefs played an important, integral part of his Chicano identity and his revolution was eye opening. Religion is always a touching subject is especially with anything having to do with political and social concerns. While it might seem unorthodox to talk about religion, I believe that religion can be a way to reach people and connect with them. For me, religion has been an enormous aspect of my identity and the way I see things around the world. It is why I think so many people connected to Cesar Chavez. Chavez connected many to meet on a spiritual level regardless of which religion they belonged to. People believed his cause because they understood his place from a religious point of view. But there was also the problem of conflicting ideas. Chavez identified as a Catholic but was open to and accepted other religions. His openness to many religions allowed many people to connect to his cause and feel a sort of bond.
