He later switched to studying natural history after losing interest. His father wasn't a fan of him switching. He wanted Darwin to become a clergyman, so in 1828, Darwin enrolled in Christ’s College, Cambridge, where he studied theology and natural history.
He met multiple scientists that would influence his studies. One of them being John Stevens Henslow. Henslow was a botanist who became Darwin's mentor and introduced him to the world of fieldwork and collecting specimens. His friendship with Henslow would give Darwin an opportunity that would make him who he is today. Henslow offered Darwin a position as “ship's naturalist” for the second voyage of the HMS Beagle.
Darwin's work on the Voyage of the Beagle and subsequent studies led to the publication of his seminal work, "On the Origin of Species," which presented his theory of evolution and the evidence supporting it. He also made significant contributions to the study of geology, zoology, and botany, publishing several influential works on these topics. Darwin's ideas have had a profound impact on scientific thought and have influenced fields beyond biology, including anthropology, philosophy, and theology. His legacy continues to inspire scientific inquiry and exploration to this
