How did the ideas of Christianity influence the actions of Constantine and then later romans?

Constantine was the 57th emperor of Rome, his reign lasted from 306 AD – 312 AD. One may say he changed the Roman Empire and influenced the spread of Christianity throughout the empire of Rome. After Constantine held the Edict of Milan, he sympathized with the Christians and it was then legal for someone to be openly Christian in Rome. This was a turning point in Western civilization that would change the course of Christianity dramatically.

One of the worst persecutions, and certainly one of the harshest throughout a whole empire, was for 9 years Christians were subject to persecution. Christians were considered an easy target because they practiced rituals some thought to be cannibalistic and involving incest. Christians and Jews were arrested and tortured all throughout Rome. Christians especially were very misunderstood. However, in 313 AD emperor Constantine accepted Christianity and made it the official religion of Rome.

In the first century AD jews were living in accord with the roman empire and initially protected by the roman laws. Until the rebellion in judea led to serious change in the ways jews were allowed to practice their faith. The rebellion in judea was a war fought between Jews and the Romans, it was caused by ethnic and religious tension. Throughout history, aspects of Christianity shaped the culture of western civilization, with its art, music, and philosophy. Western civilization did not always accept Christians, however; it took centuries for small details of the Christian lifestyle to influence Europe. Ultimately, the spread of Christianity was only possible through the environment of western Europe.

The apostles helped the spread because of their energetic attitude.For about 30 years, Paul traveled about 10,000 miles, traveling across the Roman Empire.
