During the period between 600CE to 1750CE in East Asia, there are many changes and continuities in political rule between China and Japan. There are changes such as the removal of Mongol presence in China and Japan's introduction of the shogunate. Continuities can be seen from China's continued influence on Japan. At first in August of 1945, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Nationalists made a treaty to have the dispute be peaceful, but in 1946, they were both fighting over China once again. For the longest time, Japan had been an isolationist country, a country that let no foreigners enter it, but that changed in 1853 Japan started to open its borders once more. As it did so, Western influence on its culture began to grow. While the changes in its war tactics were the most famous and well-known form of Westernization, there were many smaller ways Japan's culture changed. Some of these ways were changes in fashion and architecture. Some of the biggest changes in Japanese culture that were caused by Westernization was the fashion industry.
Japan soon became the first Asian country that had been through the stage of industrialization at that time. Japan started to industrialized during the Meiji Era which is about 1868 to 1912, Japan was able to industrialize because government encouraged businesses and trade, social order was reorganized and people began to accept western technology while some began to expertise. Government encouraged new businesses and trade by giving support on capital needs, they also sent diplomats to Europe and North America to study Western style of culture. Social order was reorganized by creating a large middle class of businessman, at the same time, unemployment was also resolved. The idea of westernization first started during the Tokugawa era and then slowly spread throughout the country.
China started when some of its earliest rulers introduced ideas about government and society. These ideas formed and shaped the Chines civilization in its earliest forms. Around 2000 B.C. some of the bigger cities started to rise up. Yu, the first ruler of the Xia Dynasty and introduced flood control systems that tamed the Huang Ye River. Eventually though the Xia Dynasty could not last any longer and the Shang Dynasty took over and was the first to keep written records.
The Enlightenment brings upon new ideas from “[groups] of writers and scholars who [believe] that human begins could apply to a critical and reasoning spirit to every problem they [encounter] in the world…scrutinizing everything from absolutism…to the traditional role of women in society” (Hunt et al, 514). A major turn of events in the Enlightenment arose specifically on the viewpoints of women and their role in society. Major debates sparked and it is the first time that women are able to express their views. Major contributors for the voice of feminism include Mary Astell and Mary Wollstonecraft, both supporters for female education. What came with the views of female empowerment came the views of those who saw females as merely caregivers to the male population.
