Baldwin was a teenager when Delaney began teaching him about light. “It was humbling,” the writer recalled, “to be forced to realize that the light fell down from heaven, on everything on everybody and that the light was always changing.” Delaney was plagued by psychological problems throughout his adult life. Attending both Dartmouth College and Oxford University, Geisel did not plan on pursuing a career in drawing . Working on the school’s magazine, Geisel slowly started his career in drawing ,but of course he did not think about becoming a children’s author. Being the editor of The Jack-O-Lantern enhanced his experience at Dartmouth because he made friends he shared interests with. Geisel attended Oxford University with an attempt to get a doctorate in English Literature, but later that changed.
Author’s lives inspire their writing in many ways. An illustrious writer, Edgar Allan Poe, experienced continuous sufferings throughout his life. The heartaches he faced transferred into his writing. Poe’s works are dark and traumatic, such as “The Pit and the Pendulum.” He uses the unthinkable and shapes short stories out of them.
n the words of Albert Einstein, “The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.” The writer, E.E Cummings used imagination to create words that had never existed, and made his poems seem alive. Edward Estlin Cummings, commonly known by E.E Cummings, was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the year 1894. He started to write poems at a young age, and his style of writing was very distinct. At the beginning of his writing career, he had a hard time finding publishers to publish his earlier works, and later he decided to publish them himself.
In the first two stanzas of the poem the speaker's attitude is whimsical and dreamy. Reminded of all of the fun things that he used to do, then in the last three stanzas, it is solemn and depressing. The speaker uses very descriptive words spiking a vivid image of when he was younger. “At four I was an Arabian wizard. I could make myself invisible” (13).

Edgar Allan Poe was a talented poet who was famous for his poems and short stories. In fact, Poe was such a great writer that he was able to have a career through writing alone. In his poetry, Poe is able to make readers feel emotion and a connection to his poems by using writing tools such as imagery and word choice. Throughout many of Poe’s poems imagery is used to help readers visualize a picture in their mind of what is happening and understand the emotion of the poem.
The beginning of Jazz and what it brought to the American culture. Jazz resulted in the rebellion of the young youth differently than the past music. The reason Jazz influenced the youth as it did is because most music can speak to the soul. Music can make you think of people and memories. It can also make you smile or want to sing along or dance or maybe even feel like crying.
David Ignatow’s poetry expresses determination not from himself, but from someone close to him. He speaks of his father coming here and working, ready to push forward and get what he wants. His father was full of anxiety, poor, and in undesirable conditions, and he still kept going. (66). Ignatow’s father was determined.
Born to a single mother, Emma Jones who married when Baldwin was about 3 years of age. It is said that Baldwin never knew his biological father but followed in his stepfather’s religious footsteps, serving within the church as a youth minister. His love for literature, reading and writing developed at a very young age and he pursued this throughout his schooling and published many works with his schools papers and magazines. In order to pursue his writing career, Baldwin knew he had to be around other writers, to learn and work with them. He worked in New York City for a few years and then moved to Paris to further his career.
His works are full of realistic qualities. Moreover, they are long with deep messages, as well as well-structured and detailed. Furthermore, his poems are democratic both subject and the language which shows how intellectual was his imaginary and visual style of writing. To both Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman, the individualism in society has a huge importance which, at the same time, inspired their style of writing. Also, they accept the importance of God in connection with nature and immortality.
In the poem “For Poets”, by Al Young, the theme is the challenge of stepping out of your comfort zone and seizing moments in life. Young expands and argues his theme through the literary devices used in the poem. These literary devices include symbolism, hyperbole, and metaphor. Al Young portrays life’s obstacles, our society’s attitude towards self expression, and experiencing nature. E.E. Cummings: Form in Function When reading anything-- be it the smallest stanza or largest epic novel--, one of the first things one notices, albeit perhaps subconscious, is form. An author who tends to shed light on the poignancy of grammar and form in writing is the brilliant ee cummings. Cummings used an original style of wording and format to further convey a point, specifically in his poems "ygUDuh," "the sky was," "i carry your heart with me," and “!blac.” Edward Estlin Cummings was born on October 14, 1894 to well-known Unitarian parents in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
