After the Civil War ended many people were in hope of finding land since population was increasing. Since the West was underdeveloped and uncivilized, many decided to expand the land. First the Louisiana Purchase increased the opportunity of expansion. Then industrialization and the Homestead Act also caused many companies encouraged to move West due to the low cost of land and that the transportation was provided through the railroads. In order to complete such goals, something had to be done with the Natives since it conflicted with their home area.
The Iroquois are a group of native americans. The Iroquois are divided into 5 dans. The Mohawk, Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, and Cayuga tribes. Later a sixth nation, the Tuscarora tribe, joined the confederation. Agriculture provided most of the Iroquois diet.
The influence the Colonists had on the Indians caused many changes to the native people, animals, and environment. One specific material good that Francis Higginson considered an essential item to bring when coming to the New World, the pistol, led to a change for both the native people and the wildlife of the New England area. The Colonists introduction of the pistol caused a shift from the Indian ways of life which sought to “take only what you need”, to a strong involvement in the trade of animals and their furs, which caused unintended effects to their ecological livelihoods. Introduction The Seminoles are a tribe that has been affected greatly by the Europeans. Still to this day they have their culture. They have been in the trail of tears and are one of the five civilized tribes. Their culture is overflowing and are kept in two different states.
The Aztecs were constantly launching raids to capture prisoners for the enormous number of human sacrifices they conducted. There is important archeological evidence showing that several Indian civilizations suffered violent ends at the hands of other Indian cultures long before the arrival of the Europeans in America. • In effect, the Spanish employed a colonization strategy of "gold and souls. " Converting the native population to Catholicism not only spread the doctrines of the Catholic Church, then under threat in Europe, but could, it was believed, further the control of Indian behavior in the mines and on the plantations.
western expansion affected native American lives in so many ways, it would take a book to say it all. So just to mention a few. It affected there way of life. It affected what they believed in from there traditional teachings. They saw everything change when they couldn't figure out why they were treated so bad after they welcome everyone that landed.
Native Americans have lived in America for thousands of years before the Europeans discovered it, but when they did make their way over to America they changed the lives of the Indian population. Europeans introduced new found disease, traded with them, and took the land so that they could develop it their own way. In general, the colonization from Europe changed the lives and the day to day behavior of the Indians. When Europeans arrived in the New World they brought with them diseases that were new to the Indian people. One of those diseases was Smallpox.
European exploration of the West began in 1500 and continued to flourish for over three centuries. While colonizing this new land, Europeans first came into contact with the native peoples. European religious views, gender roles, and land ownership shaped their interactions with Native Americans. The English, for example, practiced Christianity, while the Native Americans possessed a more spiritual and animalistic religion. Native American societies were heavily reliant on women for not only household duties, but also agricultural responsibilities.
Throughout the late 1400’s and the 1500’s, the world experienced many changes due to the discoveries of new lands and peoples that had been never been visited before. The new-found lands of the Americas and exploration of Africa by the Europeans led to new colonies and discoveries in both areas. It also brought different societies and cultures together that had never before communicated, causing conflict in many of these places. While the Europeans treated both the Native Americans and West Africans as inferior people, the early effects they had on the Native Americans were much worse. Beginning in the late 1400’s, many different European explorers started to look for new trade routes in the Eastern Hemisphere in order to gain economic and religious power.
When Europeans came to America, life of Native Americans changed drastically. The Europeans stole their land, brought disease, and gained possession of all of their resources. Native American’s lives were dramatically changed. The Native American’s who lived on the coast were affected first. They were usually either killed, captured or made ill by diseases the Europeans brought.
As the song goes, "In 1492,in fourteen ninety two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue." Before Christopher Columbus sailed to the New World, the Native Americans knew it as their home. Soon after Columbus reported back to let all of Europe know that he successfully found land, European settlers quickly followed. Every tribe was one of it 's kind, yet their cultures shared the importance of their religious practices, beliefs, and values . The Native Americans were generally very peaceful people, that is, until the Europeans invaded their land and forced them to fight back.
The Nature of Man The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a detail filled trip back in time to the 1920’s. Fitzgerald tells the story of the inhabitants of West Egg, East Egg, New York City, and everyone in between. He is able to turn something as simple as a party into an entire plot to earn someone's affection and, what might seems like a harmless old billboard, into a symbol that is talked about on numerous occasions. As the novel progresses, more and more characters are introduced.
The Americas consisted of many Native American societies, each with a unique culture. They had remained cut off from the rest of the world for thousands of years. European discovery and influx into America would shatter the Natives traditional world. The Spanish were among the first to explore the new world. Explorations brought disease that wreaked havoc on the Native populations.
Upon the first colonial establishments, the Europeans viewed Native Americans as uncultured, unintelligent, and uncivilized. The first colonizers found themselves ultimately superior to the perceived rudimentary cultural and societal customs that were observed. Native Americans viewed Europeans as a strictly one sided cultural mass enforcement foreign establishment, stopping at nothing to enforce their perceived superiority in all forms of cultural and societal aspects. Differences in land use, gender roles, and societal history added to the wedging and hostility between the Native Americans and European people. Upon the European's first impression of Native American culture, the first notable aspect of their "species" and society was their promising outlook as potential slave laborers.
From my perspective Fr. Arrupe meant that it isn’t right for people to just love themselves or god but ignore those in need of help. He wanted the students to be selfless members of society, the kind of people that aid others without hesitation. Please note I'll be using they/them/their pronouns for the person I'm talking about because they are genderqueer. Kenneth, one of the leaders in the LGBTQ+ Kickback organization is one of the most selfless people I know.
