During the early transplantation, France claimed and established a newly developed settlement along the St. Lawrence River and inner continents, for this was the start of his New World Empire. Near the shore of Newfoundland, local Indians traded beaver pelts and hats in exchange for European goods. This trading society leads to French explorers searching for furs and fish as a source of wealth. For example, in 1608 an explorer named Samuel De Champlain led a voyage to Quebec to establish permanent colonies for French settlement.
