The American Dream is what most people strive for in life. Everyone wants to be successful and have no worries in the world. The problem is, actually achieving the American Dream. The Great Gatsby, written by F Scott Fitzgerald, shows how the character Gatsby is represented by the American Dream. Gatsby demonstrates the American Dream by being wealthy, having the determination, and the effort to fit into the lifestyle of the time period. Gatsby can do anything with the amount of money he has. When Gatsby was younger he always had the dream of being successful. His dad explains to Nick about the book Gatsby wrote in to help him plan out how to achieve the American Dream. He says, “Look here, this is a book he had when he was a boy. It just shows you (173).” The book had a schedule in it describing what he would do everyday until he reached the American Dream. For example, it says he would get up, workout, study electricity, play sports, practice poise, and save money.
