George Washington is a big reason of why America’s a functioning country today. He brought a big impact on America’s culture and political views. Without a good man like George Washington as the first president, America would be so different, and probably not for the better. Knowing what he has done for our country makes other country’s look upon America as a strong nation.
George Washington was born in February 22, 1732 in Pope’s Creek Virginia. When he grew up he trained as a solider and fought as a lieutenant in the French and Indian war of 1754 (Freidel & Sidey). Washington was felt to worn out to run for a third term, so he gave his position to John Adams (Clements). George Washington gave his farewell address: “The idea of the power and the right of the people to establish government presupposes the duty of every individual to obey and establish government.” (Clements) The address is well remembered by many.
George Washington sent American soldiers on a mission through the ocean without the legislative branch’s approval (Clements). Washington had to stop shipments to avoid war with Britain; this led to George signing a treaty to decrease tension between them temporarily (Clements). When he signed the treaty is caused hash open criticism toward Washington (Clements). The John Jay’s Treaty between them ended soon after, and they became enemies.
Washington forced Edmund Randolph to resign, after being accused of working with the French (Clements). This upset Washington because Edmund was and old friend of his. Washington spent most of his time after his presidency making Mount Vernon livable for the people there (Clements). Washington loved nature and spent at least 5 hours a day outside observing the nature around him (Clements). Washington only lived two years after his presidency, having a funeral with thousands of people saluting him and bands playing (Clements).
George Washington had a major impact on the world positive and negative: He showed the government they could levy and collect taxes, he made a ceremony for vice presidents, and he had people from outside the court have a chance to have a voice and help him (Clements). Washington said, “I can foresee that nothing but the rooting out of slavery can perpetuate the existence of our nation.” (Clements)
