Charlemagne (Charles the Great) was the elder son of Pepin the Short and a grandson of Charles Martel. A strong leader, Charlemagne wanted to create a new Christian Roman Empire in Western Europe. He defeated the Lombards in to protect the pope. Charles invaded spain and attacked the muslums. He also attacked the Saxsons andand converted them to Christianity.
The Roman Empire lasted for 1200 years, conquering the Mediterranean with an iron fist. They were nearly unstoppable: a successor to Ancient Greek culture, a prosperous and innovative economy and government, geography which provided great protection, and a military that deserved its brutal reputation. Yet, they still fell. After the Pax Romana, a 200 year long peacetime, Rome lost the people’s support to fear. A series of natural disasters, mass-migration and disease, and political corruption weakened Rome, forging Rome into easy prey for the Goths to sack, and finally, ending its reign.
This shows that one of the main reasons that led to the fall of the Roman empire was because of their financial strains. Because of this, they weren’t able to recruit people to fight for them in wars, which overtime caused them to lose wars.
This affected the country very much because they quickly began to be surrounded by people they didn’t know, and were unsure if they were trusted. This included mostly attackers of immigrants. They affected the downfall by spreading diseases, overpopulation, and attacks on some of the Romans. (Doc D and E). In the year three-hundred-eighty CE, the Ostrogoths, Visigoths, and the Vandals started to invade Rome.

There were barbarian invasions that lasted from AD 400-500. The people were terrorized and Rome was sacked twice. Eventually, Rome was overthrown by the Germanic leader Odoacer in AD 476. After Rome was split, everything went downhill. There were two leaders, one in the east and one in west, and the emperors started losing control.

This led to a series of rebellions by Germanic tribes in the late fourth century, culminating in the sack of Rome in the fourth century BCE by King Alaric. The Empire spent the next several decades under constant threat before it was raided again in the fourth century BCE, this time by the Vandals. Finally, in the fourth century BCE, Germanic leader Odoacer staged a revolt and deposed Emperor Romulus Augustus. The fourth century BCE was the century that the Western Empire suffered its death blow. This was due to the fact that no Roman emperor would ever again rule from a post in Italy, which led to its downfall.
Beginning at the end of the fourth century, Germanic tribes invaded the Roman Empire, causing a decline in trade, education, and cities, along with population shifts. This time of chaos became better known as the Medieval Period or the Middle Ages, which lasted from about the 5th century CE to the 14th century CE. Europe suffered greatly from the German invaders around 400 to 600 CE. Clovis, the king of the Franks, a Germanic tribe, integrated Christianity to the culture due to the influence from his wife Clotilde. Due King Clovis’ reign, monasteries were being built due to the newly formed relationship between the monarchy and the Church.
The fall of the Roman Empire in 476 C.E. happened for many reasons. The first reason being the laziness of the Roman Empire’s military. The second reason is that many natural disasters including diseases struck the empire. The third and final reason is the social injustices that weakened patriotic spirit for Romans.
The term Germanic originated in the classical era by Roman scribes. The Roman’s were originally referring to the tribe, not a nation, but the name was later adopted as the name of the region. Germanic tribes were
Between 100 and 600 C.E, the Roman Empire went through a number of political and cultural changes and continuities. Several changes were occurring such as the division and fall of Rome and the rise and spread of Christianity but one thing that continued was the idea of patriarchy and authority in the average Roman family. In the year 100 C.E, most of Europe was in a time of peace and prosperity but after 180 C.E, Rome started to decline due to ineffective leadership and outside invasions, ending the empire’s golden age. Germanic people spread plagues causing a decrease in population and also took the opportunity to attack Rome.
UThe Anglo-Saxons were a tribe of people who lived in Great Britain during the 5th century. They were warriors who had traveled all the way from northern Germany and southern Scandinavia. The Anglo-Saxon people are very well known today despite not having been around for the several, several centuries. Their people led to the spread of Christianity through eastern Europe and the establishment of seven major kingdoms. They are also well known for the code of Honor, as the Anglo-Saxons had many values that their soldiers must live by.
Medieval Europe was a time of war and conflict between different peoples. One of the most important military endeavors of the time was called the Crusades, which was a campaign of Christian attempts to take Jerusalem from the Muslims, who occupied it at the time. Spread over several hundred years, many bloody battles were fought over the holy city. The Crusades involved the two largest religions on the continent and impacted a massive amount of people. The battles irreparably changed the lives of everyone they touched, turning peasants to knights and nobles to slaves.
The leaders in the world today should take note of the causes of the demise of the Roman Empire to ensure that this history does not repeat
