According to Dr. Garland’s lecture series on Greece and Rome: An Integrated History of the Ancient Mediterranean, Prior to Greco-Roman contact, Rome’s religious beliefs were animistic as opposed to Greece’s anthropomorphic beliefs. That is, Romans tended to believe that things animals, plants, natural features were imbued with godlike features. While, Greeks believed in Gods which were more or less “super” humans.
