“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars and change the world.” This is a quote by the bold and courageous Harriet Tubman. She was a woman with a dream that she could free slaves and that is what she did. Harriet Tubman escaped slavery to become a leading abolitionist. She led hundreds of enslaved people to freedom using an underground railroad. I believe Harriet Tubman positively influenced the United States constructively and productively as reflected in the literature of the 1800’s civil rights movement.

Combahee River Raid, which liberated more than seven hundred slaves in South Carolina.
Tubman spent the years following the war on their property, tending to her family and others who had taken up residence there. Despite Harriet’s fame and reputation, she was never financially secure. Tubman’s friends and supporters were able to raise some funds to support her
