How Did Irrigation Change Yuma

Irrigation managed to create some very big changes in Yuma and some of these changes created some both positive and negative effects throughout the years. Even though irrigation was very beneficial to Yuma County there was a lot of different costs to it. The technology that was used and all of the laborers that were needed in order to make irrigation successful in Yuma cost a lot. Everything that was used in all the different projects that were created had a very big impact in Yuma County all in their own way.
Irrigation managed to change Yuma and Southern Arizona in many different ways. For example, when irrigation became a thing in Yuma County it was an opportunity for many people to start growing their crops in the area. Growing crops meant that you needed to be living in the area, and that led to land being used for housing and different types of businesses. Irrigation changed Yuma because throughout the years more and more land was being used for agriculture. Some of that land included canals, dams, houses, and businesses. For example, an irrigation canal was constructed and it was about ten miles in length.
Also, irrigation made a really big change in Yuma because it led to the development of a citrus grove. They started planting oranges, grapefruits, lemons, figs, and dates in the area, they then started selling the fruit to …show more content…

Also, in about two years farmers managed to spend about $300,000 just for equipment that was needed to do the job. Companies also spent a lot of money on experiments that they would do with different crops and techniques. When floods and droughts started to become a problem in Yuma County the water level became very unreliable for farmers to use and the extra water would bring sediment.
