How Did Jazz Music Change America?

During the 1920s, jazz music rose popularity across America. It had everyone going places, to cities or different states or maybe just down the road. Jazz was upbeat and everyone was excited about how wealthy they were. They wanted to hear every bit of it live or on a vacuum radio. Not everybody got to listen to it though. Segregation was huge back in the 20s. Black people didn’t like the way they couldn’t do anything about it. So they beat the odds and started playing jazz. They created bands , had solo players, and showed that they could be great performers without the difference of race. They changed society for the better. At this point jazz changed history forever. It was around fifth grade that Billie decided to drop out of school. She took in her first musical lesson listening to her lifelong idol Louis Armstrong on a Victrola in a brothel. “I wonder why he didn’t sing any words and he had the most beautiful thing” as Billie always credited Louis as her influence as a jazz singer. Fifteen and working in madam Alice Dean’s house as a prostitute, Holiday was declared out of control by her guardian. (3) Her mass departure from Baltimore created a turning point in her life when she went to New York to join her mother. At the time, her mother was employed as a maid. She was caught in a Harlem vice sting and charged with prostitution as she started again in New York. As she went, she spent time in a workhouse. During that time, people found she could make a living as a singer at different clubs. (4) She also perfected what she was doing at juke joints. Holiday loved the club life. She took marijuana, which was commonplace in the music industry. (5) She had an abnormal tolerance for things like alcohol, heroin, and other substances. (6) It would be irrelevant to think of Holiday as a singer who got ruined by addictions. But nothing would stop her appetites of life, the threatening things
