Who invented the first Steel Plow in 1837? If you didn't know it was John Deere. Growing up in Rutland, Vermont, Deere was the youngest child when growing up. He was also the one to invent the first steel plow. Bet you didn't know he was a blacksmith's apprentice at the age of 17. He also did many more things in his lifetime but all of the facts I just stated will be covered in this paper plus many more things he had done in his life before it had ended in May 17th, 1886 in Moline Illinois. These plows are not made for the thick hard soil in the prairie land in the west. In 1837 John Deere created the first steel plow made for the thick prairie soil. By 1839 he remembers building 10 plow then in 1842 he was building a 100 plows. With more demand for the plows he found a partner named Leonard Andrus to help the company produce more plows by 1846. John Deere and his company then move to Moline , Illinois leaving Andrus with the Blacksmith shop in Grand Detour Illinois. He then used the Mississippi River to help import British steele and to export the finish products. His company produced 1,600 plows in 1850 in his new water powered factory. Once he invented the steel plow it all went uphill for John Deere. Growing up as the youngest child probably wasn't that bad for little John Deere. But when he invented the steel plow the people in the western prairie land went crazy for the plows. He gained a lot of knowledge when he was the blacksmith's apprentice at the local blacksmith shop at the age of 17. John Deere Married his first wife Demarius Lamb and they had 9 children. John Deere also did another tremendous things in his lifetime. He got a second wife, he was a mayor for two years. But the biggest things he did was create the first steel plow and that is what most people know him for. He created it for mainly the hard prairie soil in the west. The only bad thing that happened to John Deere was he died at the age of 82 years old. He died only a couple years after marrying his second wife.
