From the 16th to 18th century, countries in Europe were experiencing new ideas and reforms. Philosophers like Locke believed in social equality. They have discussed the purpose of a government and spread their ideas. Locke’s ideas led to the revolution in France, who didn’t have rights under absolute monarch’s control. After the French gained their rights, people in Haiti started to fight because they wanted to have the same rights that French gained during the reform.
There are forgotten pieces of history that must have shaped what the United States of America is today. The people who kept George Washington alive when he was little and how they did it have been forgotten by most. Some of the less obvious inspirations John Locke had and what caused them have been lost. Even some of his meaning is lost in his writing. These things helped to make America and its government the way they are today.

When the United States was being founded, the men charged with the creation of this novel system of government drew inspiration from a number of well-known English political philosophers. One of the most overt influences, not merely on the Constitution, but even the Declaration of Independence, was John Locke’s Second Treatise of Government. His depiction of both the State of Nature and its transition into civil society served as the mirror to the American notion and understanding of the purposes of government. Another less discussed but no less intrinsic influence on the founding document came from Thomas Hobbes in his work, Leviathan.
It is understood that John Locke played a key role of influence on Thomas Jefferson. This influence can be seen through Jefferson’s writing on the nation’s founding document. This document is called the Declaration of Independence. John Locke, the English Enlightenment philosopher wrote his Two Treatises of Government to refute the belief that kings ruled by divine right and to support the Glorious Revolution of 1688 (Doc 1). This piece of political philosophy provided many explanations for the people’s rights and obligations to overthrow a corrupt government.
Fifty years after the writing of the Declaration of Independence, on May 8th, 1825, Thomas Jefferson wrote a letter to Henry Lee. Jefferson wrote to Lee telling him what he remembered and what inspired him and the Committee of Five to write the Declaration. Jefferson wrote he was not looking for new ideas, or principles that no one had thought of but to state the “common sense” of the subject of American independence. He went on to say that nothing was really “copied from any particular and previous writing,” but rather it was the American belief at the time. Even though Thomas Jefferson says nothing was really copied, the Declaration was definitely influenced by other thoughts, ideals, and principles that were written around that time.

In saying so, he believed that the mass majority of ordinary people can be capable of giving consent to their governor/ruler as opposed to the Monarch government. However if the ruler did not comply with the needs of the people, Locke believed that the public had the justified right to rebel.

Forrest McDonald analyzes the ideas of these philosophers in chapter three of "The American Presidency: An Intellectual History. " Of all the political philosophers, John Locke contributed the most ideas that we're put to use by the framers of the American government. The historical development of the world from 1690 to 1830 wouldn’t be what it was if it weren’t for John Locke’s Second Treatise of Government. Locke’s Second Treatise not only sparked individualism, but also revolutions, and was a guide to the creations of declarations around the world. Two main revolutions and declarations that Locke’s ideas inspired were the American Revolution and the French Revolution.
The philosopher that had the greatest impact on the U.S. Constitution would be John Locke. Many of John Locke’s philosophical views align with what has become the U.S. Constitution. The 2011 documentary, First Generation, follows four students’ journeys during the last few years of high school as they strive to be the first in their families to attend college. All four featured students, Cecilia, Keresoma (“Soma”), Jess, and Dontay, have the grades and the determination to succeed but they lack the financial support which ultimately hinders their college application process. Other low income students struggle with the college application process as well and they tend to navigate it on their own. Unlike a lot of students, low income students usually don’t have the parental support at home. Most of the time, their parents aren’t familiar with the college application process seeing as they haven’t gone through it themselves.
Locke's most important and influential political writings are contained in his Two Treatises on Government. The first treatise is concerned almost exclusively with refuting the argument that political authority was derived from religious authority. The second treatise contains Locke’s own constructive view of the aims and justification for civil government. According to Locke, the State of Nature, the natural condition of mankind, is a state of perfect and complete liberty to conduct one's life as one best sees fit, free from the interference of others. This does not mean, however, that it is a state of license: one is not free to do anything at all one pleases, or even anything that one judges to be in one’s interest.
