Charles Cotesworth Pinckney was born to planters, Eliza Lucas Pinckney and Charles Pinckney on February 25, 1746. He grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, with two brothers and one sister. (Wikipedia). His mother, Eliza, was a wealthy and brilliant agriculturist who introduced a new cash crop--indigo. His father, Charles, was a successful politician.
John Singleton Copley was a painter in America. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Richard and Mary Singleton Copley. He became famous as his work consisted of portrait paintings of important figures in colonial New England. His works often depicted certain middle-class subjects. His quick climb and prolonged fame were the result of a natural skill to handle paint and be able to manufacture pictures that obscured anything created by his forerunners in America.

Charles E. Cullis was born on March 7, 1833, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His parents, John and Ann Cullis, emigrated from England to the United States. The majority of Cullis’ childhood consisted of constant sickness; he had to be carried up and down stairs. Eventually his family attempted to put him in school, but his health was too weak and they eventually gave up.

James Dwight Dana was born on February 12, 1813 in Utica, NY. His parents were Harriet Dwight and James Dana. At Utica high school, his teacher Fay Edgerton encouraged and developed his love and interest for science. He graduated in 1830 and enrolled in Yale College, where he studied natural history and geology. He graduated in 1833 and for two years, he became a mathematical instructor to midshipmen in the navy.
There were many events in his childhood that shaped his abilities to be innovative. He was born on December 25, 1652 at Woolsthorpe Manor, which is just south of Grantham in England. Newton was born into an upper middle class family. Despite being a very weak infant and people’s dismissive behavior towards him, he found ways to greatness. He was an only child and didn’t have a father until the age of three, when his mother got remarried.
