In a country’s dire time of chaos and need, a strong authority figure is needed to reinstate order. The man who came to rescue in Russia’s case was Joseph Stalin. Joseph V. Stalin, born in 1878, was a political theorist, Georgian-Soviet revolutionary, and politician. He was a dictator for the Soviet Union from the mid-1920s until his death in 1953. He is well-known for his merciless and ruthless dictatorship, often along with additional negative feedback. Furthermore, while ruling, Joseph Stalin was responsible for the death of about 20 million people. Stalin nevertheless impacted our world’s history in several beneficial ways, including the transformation of Russia into a world superpower; industrializing farming expanding its military power. Stalin was born into a very poverty-stricken family. His father, a cobbler, died only when Stalin was at the age of 11. Stalin’s mother was illiterate, however very religious. She eventually sent Stalin into a religious missionary school, for the ultimate purpose of priesthood. Before Stalin had the ability to graduate, however, he was expelled due to the fact that he was trying to force Marxist ideas on other students. He had a goal to industrialize Russia; and was very successful. His most important contribution was making energy more affordable. He wanted energy to be affordable because, in his eyes, that was the only way communism would have worked well. During his ruling, he eventually managed to harness hydro-electric potential from Russia’s great rivers of Ob, Yenisei, and Lena to obtain electricity.
