Joseph Stalin, the son of a shoemaker was born in 1879 in a small town within Georgia. He grew up poor and as an only child but earned a scholarship to study at Georgian Orthodox Church(History.com Staff.).Secretly though, he became a member of the Bolshevik party and later took power after Lenin, launching a “bold restructuring of the Soviet Economy”(.........Book). By the late 1920s, he had become dictator of the Soviet Union. After receiving power, he collectivised farming and executed possible enemies. This centralized economy took the name of the Five-Year Plan, in which “bureaucrats regulated agriculture, manufacturing, finance and transportation”(........Book). He first argues that their country has all the things it need to become powerful entities within the industries of agriculture and economy. Listing several natural resources, he claims that he will not let opportunities go to waste like others because “leaders did not see them”(Stalin). Stalin tries to convince he subjects that with him in power, he will not make these same mistakes. He says that he knows how to make uses of the resources they have and says he provides a capable government under his authority. His argument is convincing to his listeners, especially because previous to his governing, unemployment and poverty reigned over them. He gives the workers and peasants the promising outcome of a better life with the establishment of the Five-Year Plans. This sounds good to them, and creates a strong bias for Stalin and his plans. This is partly why the Five-Year plan had such success. The people of Germany benefited from this incentive, because they worked hard, at least at first, to advance themselves for the greater good of their country and their families. Stalin intentionally points out the profit his plans will bring to the lower class community, to get everyone to back him up during the Five-Year Plans.
