The Harlem Renaissance brought many great changes in the 1900’s. This was a time for expressing the African American culture. Many people began their writings during this period of time. Most upcoming writers wrote about segregation issues or distorted images of blacks and any other problems that were happening in the 1900’s. The Harlem Renaissance affected the white society because the whites enjoyed stories, art, or music that contributed to this movement. This movement was beneficial to blacks because it was a movement created in the 1920’s for which blacks helped one another to express themselves as black people, in other words creating a artistic movement.

These were two writers who had the most uprise of their writings. These writers wrote about their cultural society, but wrote about these situations in different ways. Alain Locke considered African Americans transforming into something “new”, as said in his book, “ The New Negro”. He describes how blacks migrated from the south to the north and were given new opportunities. Alain Locke strived for equal rights in his writings.
Langston Hughes worked to help shape literature and politics. Hughes was very active with his writings in this movement. Hughes wrote poetry, plays, essays, novels, and children's books. These all promoted equality and African American culture spirituality. His work was very limited but he still got his point across to which readers can be in his point of view.
