When he came back from his exile he began working with the Bolsheviks, the larger faction of the Russian Social Democratic Party. He didn’t have a great knowledge of Marxism like the other members but what he lacked in knowledge he made up for with his acts and his manipulative personality. The current leader of the party, Vladimir Lenin, began to trust Joseph, he used his organizational abilities and iron will to the fullest. He knew the power terror held, and he intended to use that power to its maximum capacity.
When Joseph became secretary general he was said to be curt, hot-headed, and intolerable. Lenin condemned Stalin after verbally abusing Lenin’s wife. Before Lenin died, he wrote a letter that was to act as his last will saying to not let Joseph take over. However hard Lenin tried this decision was overruled by Stalin’s party solidifying Joseph’s rule as leader.
After becoming ruler of Russia, he betrayed all of his supporters and condemned them to death and and anyone else who posed a threat. He even had his old crime buddies killed just to cover up his past.

Jayatunge after Trotsky, Stalin’s new political rival was a man named Sergey Kirov. Sergey was a young Bolshevik who was quickly rising through the party. Stalin got close to him and then he was assassinated. Nobody knows who had him killed but it’s a safe bet to assume it was Stalin. After Kirov’s death Stalin began a great political purge of Russia. The first victims of this purge were Zinoviev and Kamenev which were arrested on false charges in which Stalin’s secret police brutally beat them until they confessed to killing Kirov. After them the leader of the trade union, Mikhail Tomsky, committed suicide. Then former Red Army chief Mikhail Tulchaehevsky was arrested and shot.
