Marcus Garvey has been an inspiration and a motivation to me as I look towards a secondary education. Mr. Garvey was a political leader in Jamaica. This enabled him to be a part of a growing force of activist that aided African Americans in establishing communities. He was also a journalist, publisher, entrepreneur, and founder of the Black Star Line which was a shipping and passenger line that was instrumental in helping Africans return to their ancestral lands (Encyclopædia Britannica Online Marcus Garvey profile).
Mr. Garvey continues to inspire me today. Politics is an every changing and fascinating field. It has a hand in our lives on a daily basis both positive and negative. It requires reporting information in a variety of platforms. In his day, information was spread through word of mouth, telegraphs, and news papers. Today, we have multiple social media forums that send information out within minutes. Keeping pace in this recent political season would have deemed most headlines as old news with past resources.

Garvey being a journalist and a publisher began to fascinate me more as I grew older. When I was younger, I was a shy quiet person. Reading books has always been a hobby of mine. Now that I am older and have written several reports and essays that required many hours of research, I find that journalism is complex and almost ridged with detail. If fortunate enough to have a secondary education, my major will be in communications with a minor in Business Leadership. Along the same vein as Marcus Harvey, I aspire for a career in broadcasting which includes radio, production, and television.
