Thomas Builta Mrs. Trippeer Language Arts Pod 82 08 May 2023 Martin Luther King Jr Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was a highly influential member of society. He started boycotts and peaceful protests. Even though he was always peaceful, however, Martin Luther King sometimes got arrested without doing anything illegal. Not only was he a great preacher, but he also was one of the most influential people in the anti-segregation movement, being heavily influenced by his childhood. When Martin Luther King was a child, he was faced with many challenges, one of them being segregation. This childhood shaped Martin Luther King’s future, along with his father. Martin Luther King, in his book, “Stride toward freedom,” once said, "I'm a man, and until you call me one I will not listen to you.” This showed Martin Luther King as a child to oppose segregation (King 47). Martin Luther King was influenced in many more ways by his father, even following his father’s becoming a preacher. Martin Luther King also got his name from his father, Martin Luther King Sr. Martin Luther King made a career out of being a priest. At one point, he couldn’t preach, as he was in jail. He organized movements such as boycotts and rallies. Although all of these were peaceful, he got in trouble with the law several times. This never stopped him, however, as he would always tell people about how he had a dream, talking about desegregation. Martin Luther King always believed in true, constitutional equality and justice. In his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, he said, “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” In this speech, he also said he wanted America to have true equality, and for children of all races to get equal rights(History.com,
