Dewick, Ryan Mr. Shipp English 1, 4th Block 5/24/2023 Dr. Martin Luther King’s Uses of Literary devices The “I Have a dream” speech is an extremely well-known speech in America today. The speech occurred on August 28, 1963, during the march on Washington for equality. Dr. King's “I Have a Dream” speech is also an outstanding example of the effective use of literary devices to convey a powerful message throughout his speech such as Parallelism, imagery, and allusions. The use of literary devices gives the speech a poetic flow and makes many parts of the speech more memorable. This makes the speech more powerful and more known to the audience over the years to come. One device King uses is parallelism, which King uses to create a significant impact in his repetition phrase “I Have a Dream” throughout the speech. This can help the speech become more memorable, because the more you repeat something in a speech or article, the more you can get it into the reader's head.
