How Did Mitch Albom's Tuesdays With Morrie Change

Throughout the story, my opinion on Mitch definitely changed. Mitch told Morrie that he would keep in touch, but he did not. I found that to be very upsetting. Because of this, I found Mitch to be very selfish. I was quite disgusted with the fact that he did not keep his word to someone that he spent so much time with. Throughout “Tuesdays with Morrie” I grew to enjoy Mitch and his personality. When it came to Morrie, he would drop everything and go to him. The way Morrie acted with Mitch definitely wavered my opinion of him. “If I could have another son, I would have liked it to be you.” (Albom 168). Morrie really appreciates Mitch and it changed my opinion on him. I found him selfish at first, but as I read more, I noticed Mitch was caring and very considerate of others.

When he was the young age eight years old, his mother passed away. The pain of not growing up with her lasted forever, even after seventy years. Morrie felt lonely. His father affected his behaviour because he was not wealthy at all and it made Morrie work harder as an adult. “He worked in the fur business, and was constantly out of a job.” (Albom 74). His stepmother affected him as an adult because he filled his life with love and the feeling of being cared for by a mother. She would sing Morrie and his younger brother, David, to sleep and kiss them both goodnight. David was the first person Morrie had to take care of, once he was diagnosed with Polio. “For a long time- as his brother was taken back and forth to a special medical home and was forced to wear braces on his legs, which left him limping- Morrie felt responsible.” (Albom 75).
