From the early begging the human race has tried to figure out the meaning of life. To understand our surroundings and ourself. Truth, morality, power, consciousness, and the meaning of existence are all aspects of life that Nietzsche studied throughout his philosophical career. He looked at these ‘problems’ with an open mind. Unlike other philosophers he did not believe in religion, government, or nationalism. He thought of himself as “good European”. 529). One of the most popular books of his was tittle The birth of Tragedy. This was his first book which was published in 1872. The book was greatly influence by the artist Richard Wagner who he meet while studying at the University of Leipzig. Nietzsche was amazed by this artist “ excessive displays of a fiery temperament, bravado, ambition, egoism, and loftiness— typical qualities demonstrating “genius” in the nineteenth century.” Wagner influence is seen present in the first and fourth essays of Untimely Meditations. Overall, this books is based on the Greeks and their understanding about tragedy. Within the book’s pages he argues that tragedy allowed the Greeks to solve the problem of “the value of existence.” He used the view of reality of the metaphysics of Schopenhauer to make a point that tragedy is born from a combination of Apollo which is the god of order and Dionysus god of loss of control.
