Only the central figure (Nanaboozhoo) floated on a log looking for land with few birds and animals flying and swimming around them. Nanaboozhoo allowed for the birds and other animals to come aboard their log to rest. Nanaboozhoo decided to dive into the water and grab some earth from the bottom and bring it back so they can make a new land to live on. After being underwater for a long time Nanaboozhoo surfaced with no earth.
In Popol Vuh the gods try many times to create the perfect human. When they used mud, their creations dissolved into the water. When they used wood, their creations could speak, “But there was nothing in their hearts and nothing in their minds, no memory of their mason and builder”(Popol Vuh 81). The gods were angry about this because if the wood people could not remember their creators, the gods would not be worshipped. They destroyed these creations in very gruesome ways, one of the methods of destroying them being a flood.

In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the assembly of the gods comes together to evoke a flood that is to destroy all of mankind.
There are several things that can result in floods. Rain, obviously, but believe it or not, droughts can, too. A drought is a long period of dry weather, especially one injurious to crops. Droughts can result in floods because during prolonged spells, especially, they will deplete the ground’s source of water, leaving the top layer extraordinarily dry. Then, when it rains, that top layer acts as a natural barrier, preventing the water from soaking in.
The similarities that this version shares with The Flood described in Genesis is that the reason behind the flood are both punishments to humanity due to wickedness and sin. The individual in both these stories who are Utnapishtim and Noah are both forewarn by the disaster and act out of righteous to give life for all another chance. These characters also both dock on a mountain after the flood and use birds as a test to find more land. The biggest difference is that in Epic of Gilgamesh the storm only lasts 6 days while in The Flood it is said to have lasted between 40 days to a year. I am sure there are many viewpoints that have transformed these stories throughout the years because we have no evidence of these events.

Even though both The Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis are similar in that they all use the floods for a destruction, both the stories are different from each other in the distribution of roles within the gods and a way to warn the extermination from the gods. First, the similarity between The Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis is the relevance with the flooding that used to exterminate the human. To prove the occurrence of the flood, chapter 5 of The Epic of Gilgamesh records, “For six days and six nights the winds blew, torrent and tempest and flood overwhelmed the world, tempest and flood raged together like warring hosts (line 62-63, p. 21)”. The story of Adam and Eve serves as a tale on how mankind and womankind were created and placed on Earth. The story takes place in the Garden of Eden, and because the woman was deceived by the Serpent, both the women and the man were cast down to earth. The Serpent deceived the women by allowing her to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree, as she also influenced the man, God punished both. “Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” (Genesis 3:16 NIV) and that He allowed “Adam (to) named his wife Eve” (Genesis 3:20 NIV).
There are many more examples of water mentioned in the Old Testament which remind of life. In the account of the great flood, water is connected to the danger of death. The account tells us that every species died except those that were in the ark with Noah. After the flood life begins again, new and fresh.
This claim, however, is also incorrect. Without even thinking about rain, there is already enough water on Earth to cover all land by 1.7 miles (Was There Really a Noah’s Ark & Flood?). The period is between about 12,000 and 7000 BCE which was a period of worldwide warming (Origin myths, 37). Changing environmental conditions was common throughout the world. The rainfall and ocean levels rose some 300 feet (Origin myths 37). Some people began to believe their creator was punishing humans who were displeasing, so the Great Flood become part of the origin myth.
