On February 26, 1972 the Buffalo creek community was destroyed by a terrible flood. The flood caused many tears, pain and death. In the blink of an eye, people’s lives completely changed; lives were lost, houses were gone and families were destroyed. Buffalo Creek is one of the mountain hollows in West Virginia on the edge of the Appalachians, near the Guyandotte River. The land used to grow warm green grass, but overtime the land became a dark place with debris from mine operation spills.

The topography of New Farm is a low-lying and flat. With these characteristics, the Brisbane River caused lots of damage. This book was about real people that escaped and lived through the storm. Most people lost everything including their houses, all personal belongings, and jobs. Flood Essay Introduction Killing an estimated 1,833 people, Hurricane Katrina was one of the deadliest hurricanes to ever hit the United States. The flooding alone caused massive devastation and destruction. Millions of people lost their homes and all their possessions. This flood was horrific, but imagine a flood so great that it destroyed all of humanity. This great flood occurs in the stories of Noah, Utnapishtim, and Deucalion.
This is due to the river growing larger, as it travels downstream. Most rivers and creeks grow larger as they flow downstream. The difference with the Mississippi is the amount of water being transported through it. The Mississippi has more tributaries than most. The Great Flood of 1927 is classified as one of the worst natural disasters of the 1900’s because of how many towns it destroyed and displaced when the MIssissippi overflowed into 11 states from Illinois to Louisiana. The flood was especially terrible because of how long it lasted, which was about 4 months.

The New England colonies changed a lot between the 1630’s and the 1660’s between economic, political, and social views. Politically, the colonies went from a democracy that was limited to church members to a more open democracy that included men and women, church members and non-church members. Economically, the colonies went from believing that wealth was a sin to accepting capitalism and private profit. Socially, the colonies originally believed that they could purify the church and create a Utopian society, whereas eventually some colonies were free to believe in any religion they wanted to. Though there were plenty of things that changed in the New England colonies, many things also stayed the same.
