Coal companies came to own most of the land in the Appalachia and had little interest in its people or preserving the character of the community or their quality of life. This goes to show that Mountaineers were not as “backwards” and as “hillbilly” as people like to think. They were misinformed and, often times, were tricked into selling their proper to greedy industry owners. In the book, Ronald Eller does an excellent job at discussing the transformation of the land over 5 decades. The area went from an isolated and self-sustaining region of small farms to an area where most families were indebted to the cooperation’s for their livelihood.
In Cleveland, Ohio there was a fire that occurred on June 22, 1969, around 12pm on the Cuyahoga river. People called it the “burning river”. The river caught on fire because there were floating pieces of debris that was slicked with oil. The debris ignited by sparks that came from a train that was passing over the river. The reason it happened is from years of people dumping pollution into the river.
The Omaha Storm Chasers are a Minor League Baseball team founded just outside of Omaha, Nebraska in the city of Papillion. Due to the Storm Chasers being located in a high population, such as Omaha, the team can interest a larger community of fans that most Minor League teams can’t do. This outstanding Minor League team is affiliated as the Triple-A organization for none other than the defending World Series champions the Kansas City Royals, and has been affiliated with the Royals since 1969, giving the fans of the Royals a team to cheer for in Nebraska. The Storm Chasers play their games at the beautiful Werner Park, a place that provides wholesome entertainment and quality baseball games for the thousands of fans watching. This ballpark can hold up to 9,000 thrilled fans, also this unique park has a grass berm seating section in the outfield area, making the experience a little different than a regular ball game.
Today June 19th 1865, the events at Owl Creek Bridge are proof that the North is unwilling to take separation as an answer. A man named Peyton Farquhar shot at the Northern soldiers. This man from the South somehow knew about our Union encampment. “He fired on our soldiers,”said an unnamed army Captian. “We caught him near our encampment at Owl Creek Bridge,”he said.
But the Indians, who build a capital in New Echota, had a large settlement in the area stretching all the way to Dahlonega, Georgia and more. By the 1800s the Indians were being forcibly removed from their lands across the United Stated with the settlements around Rome following the trend. The Creek tribe was moved around the 1820s and the Cherokee were moved in 1838. The city has a big cemetery located on one of the 7 hills in the area called Myrtle Hill Cemetery. It hosts burials of mostly confederate soldiers from the area and a few union soldiers.

In 1862 Miners began to invade the rocky mountains and plains, clashing with Indians, the Lakota Siox massacre or capture 1000 people on the Minnesota Frontier. John Henry goes to the mine to get money for his family in a time of need. The captain tells John Henry that the mountain is caving in but John tells him that its just his hammer suckin wind.

The Illinois River is used for many things some important and some for fun. There is many all around uses for the river thought. The length and the location of the Illinois River is something not a lot of people know becuase the Mississippi is so close by and people focus on the Mississippi river more than the Illinois river.

I know this because around the same time Carl Sandburg wrote this story people were hunting the buffalos to near-extinction and not doing anything to help or fix it.
The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 was of the most powerful natural disasters of the 1900’s in 11 states along the Mississippi River from Illinois to Louisiana. The flood lasted from the beginning of April, through May, June and July and finally ended in August. During the flood, the river got to be as wide as 80 miles in some places and submerged residential areas in as much as 30 feet of water. The flood affected multiple states and the country in countless ways. Some of the ways it changed the country was in a social and political way.
Boscastle Flood Red Box Case Study Location and Dates On Monday 16 August 2004 a devastating flood hit the two towns of Boscastle and Crackington Haven, Cornwall. Boscastle with a population of only 888 was a thriving fishing village near the South West Coast of England. The flood destroyed most of the town and caused a decrease in the developed infrastructure. It is estimated that 440 million gallons of water reached the town which were as a consequence of three rivers bursting their banks and converging after heavy rainfall.
The Buffalo Creek Disaster written by Gerald M. Stern helped me understand the different decisions a lawyer must go through to help their clients. The Buffalo Creek Disaster was a man-made disaster that occurred in February 1972. The Buffalo Creek Mining Company’s coal waste refuse pile collapsed, leaving over 125 people dead and 4,000 people mentally distraught. The Arnold & Porter law firm was reached out to by survivors for help and Gerald M. Stern was appointed as the lawyer for the case, who eventually won $13.5 million for the survivors.
The most recent flood occur in Kuching, Sarawak where heavy rainfall caused some areas around Kuching to be inundated by flood waters and most roads became congested as they were impassable to traffic. The heavy downpour was still continuing around Kuching and several stalled vehicles were left on the flooded roads. Several key places were flooded including the Sarawak General Hospital, Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters at Jalan Badaruddin, Padungan fire and rescue station, Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Teknologi Mara Samarahan campus, and areas around Padang Merdeka.
