How Did Phidias Influence Greek Sculpture

Phidias was one of the most important, but not too famous, Greek sculptors.
From making sculptures to managing the creation of artistical structures, he made his mark on Greek history with some of the most famous Greek pieces of art, which will be covered later on.
Phidias was born around 490 BCE in Athens, Greece.
He was an Athenian sculptor who’s personal and family life is mostly unknown.
Phidias was the son of Charmides and a student of the Athenian sculptors Hegias and Hageladas.
There is little known about his life, therefore, he is majorly known for his artworks.
Although none of Phidias’ original artworks have survived, there have been many replicas that can help visualize his works.
This is the statue of Athena Parthenon, sculpted around 438 BCE.

His artworks are a perfect example not only of Greek art but of the way Greek art modeled the body, as it glorified the human body.
His art is an inheritance to Greek culture, and it impacts us today as art is something that is everywhere.
There were two occasions where Phidias’ view of the world might’ve changed, in addition to the wars.
The first event dealt with Phidias being accused of stealing gold that was supposed to be used for the statue of Athena.
He was accused because there were people who envied Pericles' power, and since they were afraid to attack Pericles and Phidias was his friend, they decided to attack him instead but in the end, he was declared innocent.
The second incident might’ve either been caused as a consequence for having unfairly accused Phidias, or it was another false accusation.
Phidias was accused of committing an act against Greek religion, where he was accused of carving Pericles and himself on Athena’s shield.
After being found guilty, it’s not clear what happened to Phidias.
Some said that Phidias was sent to prison where he died and other said that he was exiled or that he escaped to
