James Monroe, the fifth and last president of the Revolutionary Generation, was a historical figure who had made the most lasting impact on the United States. In a time where women were thought to be slaves of men, it was very difficult for women to look for ways to become part of our great nation and to be able to have the right to vote. The journey for women to gain rights was long and hard, which Susan B. Anthony was well aware of when she started her campaign for women’s rights in the mid 1800’s. Susan B. Anthony affected society by making it possible for women to be thought of as real people. She stood up for what she believed in regardless of the consequences. She helped give women a chance to play a role in the development of our nation, and the lives of women all around the world to this very day.
Andrew Jackson was arguably the first “Average Joe” to be coined as President of the United States. His impact on the nation’s history is one that will never be forgotten since he brought about new fashions to approaching government, and new ways to view the country and its actions. This entire era was deemed “The Age of Jackson”, a deserving title for the man and the time period he was involved in, due to the way he approached and altered government and other decisions that changed American life. In the presidential election of 1824 Jackson won the popular vote of the American citizens, but he did not win the electoral vote; therefore, John Quincy Adams won the election.
Born on November 11, 1744 in Weymouth Massachusetts, Abigail Adams was the second first lady of the United States and made her impact on America through her words, both spoken and written. Abigail was married to second U.S. president, John Adams and mother to sixth U.S. president, John Quincy Adams. Deprived of a formal education as a child because of her gender, Abigail took it upon herself to self educate. She learned French on her own as well as a vast variety of other subjects such as theology, government, and law. This helped her later in life as she became John Adam’s right hand, providing him with advice and input as he developed the new country.
On April 30, 1789, George Washington took office as the First President of the United States with hopes of expanding upon the nation’s principles. He immediately assumed his responsibilities and built the nation to become the fantastic country it is today. At the end of his presidency, feelings of despondency and dejection filled the country, for humble Washington shaped the role and function as the leader of America. Based on his presidency alone, Washington influenced the lives of many, as all citizens looked up to him as an inspiration. Initially, he set precedents for future presidents to follow, keeping the nation civilized for years and years.
Abigail Adams helped start off everything for women, and men thinking about women’s rights and roles in a country that had been founded on the ideals of equality and independence for women. She was a very important women because without her women probably wouldn't get the respect they get today. Queen Elizabeth I was the first single female monarch of England . Her strength, courage, and dedication to her country helped England to overcome many obstacles, and her leadership was an inspiration to many. As a child she faced many challenges, and as the queen who never married, she was often doubted by the men who surrounded her. But, as the strong woman she was, she was able to overcome her difficulties and lead her country as well as the men who preceded her. Queen Elizabeth I left a legacy of feminine empowerment that began in her childhood, developed through her challenging rule, and continues even after her death.

Victorian Britain was during the 19th century until just after the 20th century had begun (1837-1901). Queen Victoria was crowned in 1837 at only 18 and was the longest reigning Queen, with a total of 64 years until her death in 1901. This reign was broken by her great great-granddaughter, our current ruler, Queen Elizabeth II who has now reigned for 65 years. Victoria’s coronation took place during a time when the people of England despised the royal family because of the way they handled things. Victoria took over from her paternal uncle, George IV, who was said to have ‘no limit to his desires, nor any restraint to his profession’ and to contribute more ‘to the demoralisation of society than any prince recorded in the pages of history’ .
