Queen Elizabeth I was the first single female monarch of England . Her strength, courage, and dedication to her country helped England to overcome many obstacles, and her leadership was an inspiration to many. As a child she faced many challenges, and as the queen who never married, she was often doubted by the men who surrounded her. But, as the strong woman she was, she was able to overcome her difficulties and lead her country as well as the men who preceded her. She went on a reign of terror in which she began to force her religion on others, and she executed those who wouldn’t accept it. She executed over 300 Protestants and heretics over the course of her life.” In 1554, and man named Thomas Wyatt organized a rebellion against the murderous queen. His goal was to dethrone Mary and put the more accepting protestant Elizabeth in her place. Mary uncovered the plot and executed Wyatt. She also jailed her step-sister for being the one to replace her, even though she was unaware of the plan. In 1558, after the death of her sister, Elizabeth took over the rule of the kingdom. But along with inheriting the crown, she also inherited numerous problems left behind by her predecessor. The country was in the middle of a war with France, and the royal funds were quickly draining. There was also conflict between the two major religions in the country.
