Fans as first generation Latinos/as and/or non-Spanish speakers relate to Selena in navigating what it means to be a Latino/a in the United States. Fans find Selena’s profound influence on the U.S. and Mexico in both migrant communities and among Latinos/as who might have been first, second or maybe third generation like Selena herself. (Muniz 8) Selena single-handedly broke barriers for Mexicans in the U.S. She became an ambassador of Mexican American identity, especially for women. As said by Willis and González, she was a force that seemed to bridge two worlds together. In those two worlds, she spoke to people from multiple generations, as described by Muniz. Though she faced criticism for her fashion choices, which was a huge part of who she was, she did not let it stop her from becoming a trailblazer. She was young, but she was also strong and determined. Her strength allowed her to pave the way and influence many Latinx artists that came after her. The reasons she is so inspirational, especially for other Mexican Americans, were that she had a very charismatic personality, her artistry was unmatched, and her legacy will live on forever. Selena’s music and personality resonated with many Mexican Americans and she was able to give them a sense of belonging and allowed many to feel more pride in their culture. She continues to be a symbol of Mexican American identity and even a symbol of hope for those wanting to live the American dream as she did. Her everlasting legacy will continue to inspire generations as her story continues to be shared. She can be seen as a reminder that age and background do not mean someone is limited in their possibilities. Selena Quintanilla, the queen of Tejano music, will forever be remembered as someone who, while staying true to herself, changed the Tejano genre, influenced modern fashion, and left an everlasting mark on the Mexican American
