Sophocles plays a very important role in the innovation of Greek theatre and drama. He is one of the three great ancient Greek tragedians. He wrote about one hundred and twenty-three plays, but only seven were completely saved. He is one of the most influential dramatists in history. He is also very well-known in the theatre for adding a third character in the staging of Greek theatre.
