The Civil War was a war between the Union and Confederate over slavery that started April 1, 1861. The historical question is who started the civil war and i believe the confederates started it. The start of the civil war started with the confederate firing upon Fort Sumters. But some believe that the Confederate attack was justified because the union sent a fleet of ships with food to resupply Fort Sumters so the Confederates were defending from a future attack. The Confederates started the Civil War because the Confederates fired upon the fort first, even with warning from the Union.
On April 12, 1861, Confederate troops fired the first shots on Fort Sumter and began what would be the start of one of America’s deadliest battles, the Civil War. Although the official war started in 1861. There had been ongoing economic, political, and social conflicts in the states for decades well before the war started. As the Civil War is commonly acknowledged as a war fought over the issue of slavery, several other factors such as dissimilarities between the North and South’s industrial advancement, the infamous Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the differentiated views on what freedom is between African American and white citizens. These were vital elements to the reason behind the Civil War.
The Civil War was fought during 1861 through 1865 between the Southern and Northern parts of the United States. The North, or the Union, wanted to abolish slavery, but the South, called the Confederates, wanted to keep slavery as well as secede from the Union. This war started at Fort Sumter and was won by the North. Hostility between the North and South grew noticeably after the year of the Missouri Compromise, 1820 (“Civil War” 1). Four of the possible theories include, morality and views on slavery, two societies, failure to compromise, states rights and Lincoln's election. The Civil War was a monumental bloodshed, which was fought between the United States of America and the Confederate States, from 1861 to 1865. The primary cause of the war was the Southern states' desire to preserve the institution of slavery, which did not please the beliefs of the North. At the beginning of the Civil War, twenty-two million people lived in the North and 9 million people, which included four million of whom were slaves, lived in the South. The North, led by President Abraham Lincoln and his trusted generals, had more money, more factories, more horses, more railroads, and more food than the south. These advantages made the United States much more powerful than the Confederate States, which ultimately led to Northern victory.
The Civil War marked a defining moment in United States history. Long simmering sectional tensions reached a critical stage in 1860-1861 when eleven slaveholding states seceded and formed the Confederate States of America. Political disagreement gave way to war in April 1861, as Confederates insisted on their right to leave the Union and the loyal states refused to allow them to go. Four years of fighting claimed almost 1.5 million casualties directly affected untold civilians, and freed four million enslaved African Americans. The social and economic system based on chattel slavery that the seceding states had sought to protect lay in ruins.

These new developments influenced the opinion of the public and caused dispute, ultimately leading to the start of the Civil War.
