The beat generation took place in the 1940’s and lasted up to the 60’s. It was a literary and artistic movement started by the literary icon Jack Kerouac, with the help of Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs. The term “beatnik” was in most peoples opinion another word for a hippie. It consisted of lots of drug use, college kids, and modernism.
