Elvis Presley and Little Richard were two singers that rose to fame in the 1950’s. They both had a major impact on society during the time because Rock and roll was new and many people didn’t know what to think. Both singers were in their 20’s when they started really becoming popular releasing hits throughout America. Both of the singers first major hits were only one year apart. Elvis’s “Heartbreak Hotel” and little Richard’s “Tutti-Frutti” started up their careers and sent them straight to the top. Two role models that affected the youth were Little Richard and Elvis Presley. Little Richard showed early signs of homosexuality and his dad kicked him out of the house at the age of 13. Later on in life he had a very complicated sexuality. Little Richard described his sexuality as ominsexual which means he had affairs with both men and women. Many kids at the time did not know if it was ok to be gay or ominsexual becuase not many people would come out about that kind of stuff; however, after seeing one of their idols or this really famous person come out about being gay the teens thought it was still strange but maybe not as strange. Elvis on the other hand appealed to teens in a totally different way. With the economy being at an all time high kids didn’t need to help their parents with money so they could buy records and listen to their favorite singers at home. They would dress themselves in the same type of clothes Elvis would wear. The boys would especially try to dress and act like him because they wanted to get as many girls as Elvis. Fans would go crazy when they would see Elvis; at one of his shows there had to be 50 more security guards to make sure the concert didn’t get two out of
