RONALD REAGAN AND THE BERLIN WALL THESIS STATEMENT Ronald Reagan’s speech at the Berlin wall challenged Gorbachev to tear down the wall because communism supported by Soviet Union divided the Germans and caused the Berlin wall. Berlin wall The Berlin Wall, one of the key symbols of the Cold War conflict, was constructed by the Soviet-influenced East German state in August 1961 to stop East Berlin residents from fleeing west. For nearly three decades it reminded the world of the division between East and West, between the Communist and the western countries.
During the beginning of the “Cold War”, Berlin was an area where Europeans were able to relocate to without having to cross the international borders of Europe. In response to this east Germany, authorities thought it would be best to build a “wall” that surrounded West Berlin. After the East German government had given permission to stop the immigrants from moving into Germany the premier decided that he wanted to close its border forever. The Wall was completed within a night and day and was built with barbed wire and concrete block, it divided Berlin from one side to the other. For years after West Berlin became the hot end of the “cold” war as nuclear weapons faced off across the wall.
That did not last long because when Germany started to get defeated they attack and got back their land. Some of the long term impacts are an effect of some of the short term impacts. A major thing that affect a short term impact is many Austria were killed because United nations failed to do anything to help them before it was too late. One thing that stands on its own is the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It was a major catastrophe that killed many American soldiers.
In his speech, President Ronald Reagan addresses the wall separating the East and West sides of Berlin, Germany. He emphasises the strain it puts on the country and how devastating the dividing of the city really is. The wall dividing the city makes contact between families on both sides unnecessarily difficult. Not to mention the message that the wall brings; the remnants of a tense cold war. Despite how strong the Berliners are, the wall puts too much strain on the city, the country, and the rest of the world.
One characterizing feature of the military in the 80 's was the Cold War which lasted from 1983-1988. The most notable product of the Cold War was the Berlin Wall built in 1961 some time after the Second World War. The function of this wall was to divide Germany among the allies. The eastern half went to the Soviet Union, and the western half went to the United States, Great Britain and France. This wall would stop the flow of refugees from the communist east Germany to the west.
In response, the Soviet Union built the Berlin Wall to keep citizens from escaping into the West. Construction of the Berlin Wall caused conflicts for many, and in 1987, President Ronald Reagan planned to

The Berlin Wall was not an effective containment strategy. This is shown when an individual takes the time to assess the entirety of the Wall’s intent and overall outcome. Berlin was the capital of Germany, which was split into four different sections following World War II. Three out of four of those sections joined to form West Berlin, and the fourth section remained separate as West Berlin. The Berlin Wall was a border created by East Berlin, which was controlled by the Soviet Union.
It separated the soviet and the democratic side and impacted most of the population who were trying to migrate into the western half. Ronald Reagan made a speech about this wall and later yelled out “tear down this wall”. It was a key impact to the agreement of the walls’ destruction. The Berlin Wall defined a loss of freedom and human rights. The fall of the Berlin Wall symbolized a key turning event in diplomatic and government powers as it showed the supremacy of the capitalist government system and brought about the major downfall of many communist
JP1-02 defines an insurgency as “An organized movement aimed at the overthrow of a constituted government through use of subversion and armed conflict”. Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) is a modern example of an insurgency. This insurgency arose after the invasion or “liberation” of Iraq by United States and Coalition forces in March of 2003. AQI supports the JP1-02 definition of an insurgency. I will give a background on the rise and decline of AQI.
German Nazism was a major event in world history that affected numerous different countries as well as numerous different people. Adolf Hitler was the main cause of German Nazism and caused millions of deaths, six million of those being Jews. He is most well-known for the Holocaust that he created trying to rid Germany of all other religions, specifically the Jews. However, it is important to see Hitler before he became a dictator as well as to see what he did during his dictatorship along with what happened to the world after his reign ended. German Nazism had many causes and effects that continue to affect the world today.
Natives of East Berlin were desperate to go into West Berlin, and the quantity of checkpoints in which Westerners could cross the fringe was greatly lessened. This negatively affected many citizens of East Berlin and they would not obey to any rules. The way to get out was so flee the east, so right as the wall went up, up to 2000 people everyday escaped to the other side. This shows desperation and anger due to being separated from the rest of the city. Surprisingly, more than 3 million East Germans escaped to West Germany between 1945 and 1961.
