The American Civil War has one of the biggest impacts on freedom. The Civil War was one of the biggest breakthroughs for slaves, allowing them to be citizens. The whole economy of America depended on slavery Many people agreed about wanting their country's economy not to depend on slavery, many wanted race equality because it’s not fair and everyone shouldn’t be enslaved. The Civil War changed the idea of freedom from the perspective of freedom, freedom of speech, and the abolition of slavery. The Civil War changed the point of view of everyone when these two parts of America fought about whether Black people should have rights, leading to a war. Allowing white people who did not think slavery was right to finally speak out for black people until a slave found out that they didn't have freedom. An example of this was Frederick Douglass, who was a former slave, who stated in his autobiography, “I envied my fellow slaves for their stupidity.” If we analyze these words, we can observe Douglass stated that he learned how bad it was that slaves did not have rights because of their skin color. Douglass, after he learned how to write, had his view of freedom change, seeing that equality did not exist in America. Douglass knew a Civil War had to happen, making people see how harsh slavery was and that every skin color should be equal. Once the Civil War ended, everyone's perspective changed.
