The 1900’s and early 2000’s were a very hard time for America. WWII was coming to an end, the Cold War was starting, and we experienced our first terror attack. These three historical events brought on many fears to America; two of which, were the fear of communism, and the fear of terror attacks. Both of the world wars were terrible, but fate had brought these battles to diminish the economically poor times. After the second World War, Canada’s identity was shaping into the one we see today. The war changed Canada in various aspects, such as how Canada was part of a cause to support other countries in need of help, how the economy was advancing, and Canada’s part in peacekeeping missions across the world.

As the world changes around us, our picture frame in history changes as well. “It’s written and rewritten in each generation. The photojournalist that I chose for this career research is Hiroko Tabuchi, a New York Times journalist, who specializes in Japanese economics, business, and technology. Tabuchi gives insight to the United States about Tokyo through photojournalism and uses photography to connect two countries separated by miles of ocean. A photojournalist’s primary job is to be a visual storyteller.

The space race between the United States and The Soviet Union significantly impacted the education system in the United States and the curriculum that was taught for years to come. The social emphasis on gender caused a crisis on American masculinity and feminism by influencing many to assume certain gender roles and feel that they were not masculine enough or too feminine because of their view on communism. The Cold War socially impacted the United States through fear, education, and gender.
