This extraordinary system, which lasted from 509 BC, expanded its strength and influence around the world. It became one of the greatest empires in the Mediterranean Sea. However, the Roman Republic’s system could not survive longer than 500 years and eventually collapsed. Then, it was replaced by the Roman Empire. The fall and decline of the Roman Republic had many causes, but one of the most important events leading to its fall was the First Triumvirate (unofficial political alliance) between three of the most powerful figures in the government.
