There are many inventions that have been invented to help benefit Texas. Some of these inventions are the Parrott Rifle, the Brooke Gun, barbed wire and the discovery of pasteurization. The Parrott Rifle was invented in 1860 and patented in 1861. It was invented by a man named Robert Parker Parrott. Parrott was a past West Point graduate and also he was an ordnance officer. In 1836, he resigned and went to work, as a superintendent, in a place called the West Point Foundry. He then spent his time trying to better a rifled cannon. Even though it took him around 40 years, he patented a way new way to put a band on the breech of the gun tube. This made the rifled cannon by making it easier to use. It is not used these days because there are better and more advanced rifles that are available to us today. But, the Parrott Rifle was important to Texas, because it was a weapon that the Confederate Army used during the Civil War. Since the Confederate Army didn’t a lot of weapons, especially compared to the North, this rifle was probably a helpful tool. The Parrott Rifle was also used by the North. The Brooke Gun was invented in the beginning of the Civil War by a man named John M. Brooke, who was an ordnance officer in the Confederate Navy. Brooke was also a former soldier in the U.S. Army. The Brooke Gun was similar to Parrott Rifle in many ways. But, the Brooke Gun had more bands on the breech of the gun tube. The Brooke Gun also had parts that were similar to the Blakely Gun.
