The Reign of Terror was an ominous and fierce time in French Revolution history. Radicals took control of the revolutionary ministry. They jailed and killed anyone who they suspected might have not been devoted to the revolution.
The French Revolution had started four years before, thanks to the Storming of the Bastille. Ever since then, the government had been in a continuous state of modification. By 1793, the revolutionary government was a disaster. France was being attacked by distant countries on all sides and civil war was breaking out in many districts. Led by Maximilien Robespierre, radicals conquered the government and began the Reign of Terror.
