How Did The Renaissance Change European View Of The World

The Renaissance was a period of huge change in European history which originated in Florence, Italy, in the late 1300s. During the Renaissance there were changes in art, literature, and sciences. People began to have more secular ideas and focused more towards life in the present. Ideas began to shift from religious beliefs towards facts. The focus upon man kind and its existence became highly prominent in ideas such as humanism and individualism. The values of the Renaissance changed man’s view of the world through an emphasis on individualism, people embraced life in the present, and reason triumphed over religion.

During the Renaissance many different movements and revolutions began. The one with the most notable effect is the Scientific Revolution. The Scientific Revolution led to advancements in chemistry, physics, math, anatomy and astronomy. Between the Middle Ages and Renaissance, views on astronomy and anatomy differed greatly. During the Middle Ages people accepted the belief that the Earth was the center of the universe, this was known as the Geocentric Universe of Ptolemy. This supported the Bible that said God created the Earth and then the sun and moon. Although the Geocentric Universe was based greatly off religion, there was evidence of math being used however, mathematics were more heavily used in the Heliocentric Universe of Copernicus where the sun was the center of the universe(Doc C). Math and reason were used within astronomy however, they were also used in anatomy. Both “Zodiac Man,” 1512, and On the Makeup of the Human Body, 1543, portray different views of anatomy. In “Zodiac Man” the human anatomy contains zodiacs with counterparts in the body. Although only 30 years later, Human Body is based off of a dissected human body therefore, it has proper anatomical structure.(Doc D). Through logic and scientific reasoning there became a greater understanding of the world and the people within it.
