Women have only been able to vote for just over 100 years with the 19th amendment being passed in 1920 but before then? Women didn't have the right to vote, nor were they given the same education, salary, job opportunities or rights. The first group of feminists were the ‘Suffragettes’ who fought for the right for women to vote in the mid-1800’s. The suffragettes were the one of the first feminist groups who fought for women’s rights to vote, which would let them have a say in political matters. In 1848, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott created factions across the country to campaign for suffrage. They were determined to secure the right for women to vote no matter what and fought tirelessly for the cause. In 1878, the woman’s suffrage amendment was written by Susan B. Anthony and rejected in 1887. Abolitionists Lucy Stone and Henry Blackwell also agreed on the women’s right to vote and helped them achieve it at a state-level instead of nationwide. Frenchman Pierre-Joseph Proudhon (1809-1865), revealed himself to be a misogynistic antifeminist, and a supporter of male domination. Even those who rejected the first submission of the amendment Susan had written also believed that women did not deserve the right to vote. Many other men and women have also opposed the feminist movement, but thanks to their efforts not only are women allowed to vote today, but they also have the same rights as men do. Women are now able to have an equal education, accelerate at their jobs and be in charge of their families. The feminist movement also led to other movements such as the fight for colored women to be allowed to vote and more. Women were also given the right to initiate divorce proceedings and rights regarding
