When people hear World War II they immediately think of D-day, Germany, Pearl Harbor, etc. Think of the postwar era of World War II. It was a prosperous time for the economy and the military. There were some prejudices that arose from the Japanese-American internment. Also political standoffs that were to tense you could cut it with a dull knife. Let us not forget about during the war and how it forced some of the changes that came after the war. Although World War II was a horrific war if did have many changes that came from it some for the best others for the worst. After World War II concluded the American economy boomed. The city of Berlin, the capital of Germany, was divided as well. Since the England, France and the United States were allies they combined their territories. The Soviets kept their territory. Berlin was in the Soviet side of Germany but was still divided amongst the four nations. East Berlin was controlled by England, France and United States, meanwhile East Berlin was under Soviet control. This left a small island of democracy in an ocean of communism. That being said there was no way to supply the democratic side of Berlin because the Soviets tried to cut them off. Using planes they dropped supplies to the West Berlin. Slowly relations with the Soviets worsened creating a conflict called the Cold War, which did not end until 1991. The Cold War and a tactic called containment, stop the spread of Communism, led to the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Tensions in the 1960’s while President Kennedy was in office almost sent the two superpowers to war. This was called the Cuban Missile Crisis. Amidst the Cold War, the world needed to replace the League of Nations because it failed to prevent another world war. In 1945 the United Nations, UN for short, was created to make sure another global conflict will not happen again. So far it has been successful with the Security Council as the spearhead of this mission. Many nations, as of today, are part of this organization. While
