How Did World War II Affect The Domestic Structure Of The United States?

World War II, which lasted from 1939-1945 had a large impact on the domestic structure of the United States. From the way women were viewed in the workplace, to the rationing of food and clothing. The second World War impacted the domestic United States to a great extent and opened doors for new opportunities for the everyday citizen as well as spreading unyielding patriotism throughout the country. Even though the effects of World War II did impact and change the domestic United States to a great extent at the time, after the war was over many things reverted back to normal with some few long lasting effects able to be seen still taking place after the war.
During the War many things had to change in order for the country to survive and function. With so many of the able bodied men off fighting in the war women had to take things into their own hands in order to get things done and many of them did. Many women with their husbands and family members gone to help provide for their family and assist the war effort worked in war factories and did other jobs that were usually viewed as just for men. In times of need for countries citizens always stay loyal and feel more strongly toward their country than during peacetime. The use of national symbols such as Uncle Sam and new national icons such as Rosie the Riveter instilled a new sense of pride and loyalty to many in the nation. Propaganda was very effective from encouraging people to by war bonds, to encouraging people to join the military. Every piece of propaganda was used for the same common purpose, to help Americans help America to win the war. Roosevelt would also sit down for “Fireside Talks” every week on the radio to instill a national sense of trust in the president and made the citizens feel like they knew Roosevelt better then they had known other previous
