How Do Cars Are Known For The Effectiveness Of Their Movements

Task 1

The toy I am going to use will be a car. Cars are known for the effectiveness of their movements, so my aim is to know whether adding weight to it could improve or worsen the car’s performance. Of course when a car is moving, different factors like acceleration, friction or weight can modify the speed of the car. They are correlated factors. Depending on the surface, wind or car area, friction can be higher or lower. The higher the friction the lower the speed and the lower the friction the higher the speed. More weight means that more acceleration is needed in order to push a car so a change in weight would also change the speed of a car. These are the factors that I can control:

Surface: in order for the experiment to be valid I …show more content…

Factors I can’t control:
Friction: even the smoothest surface must produce some friction, otherwise an object cannot stay attached to it and therefore stop.
Gravity: gravity is the force that pushes everything down and it is present everywhere at the same rate, therefore it is uncontrollable.
Air volume: air volume changes during the day. A more concentrated air would increase friction while a less concentrated air would decrease friction.

Task 2

The variables I am going to investigate are time, distance, acceleration, speed and weight. This variables will help me to answer my question which is finding how weight affects the course of a car. This experiment could be useful to those people who usually bring trailers with their cars. In fact, knowing an optimum speed to go when having a higher weight can help many drivers to avoid accidents.

My hypothesis for this experiment is that the heavier the car, the shorter the distance it achieves. This is due mainly because weight increases the pressure the car exerts on the ground, consequently producing more friction which would then stop the car faster. My investigative question will be : how does weight affect the performance of a car in terms of the distance it
